Printing
Overview of Printing and Dines
Printing with Dines is easy to set up and is often a critical part of operations, especially in larger venues. You can choose to print automatically when an order is received or manually print when needed.
There are three configurations of printouts you can choose from:
- Customer receipts - these receipts can be presented to customers and will contain information about all items purchased, any fees (e.g. service charge), and VAT information.
- Kitchen receipts - these receipts will include any items which have been marked as a 'Kitchen item' - learn more about operating a Kitchen with Dines here.
- Bar receipts - these receipts will include any wet items on the bill.
All bills will contain information that will help identify the related order, including the 4-digit order number, customer name, and Table/Collection/Delivery time.
Which printers are compatible?
The Dines system is compatible with Star Micronics printers that support CloudPRNT. The best model to use with Dines (and best value) is the Star Micronics mC-Print3. You can order one directly from the Dines Shop and it will be with you in 5 working days.
For a list of other printers that are CloudPRNT compatible, please see here.
If you have a Star Thermal POS Printer that isn't listed in the link above, it should accept the Hi X Connect Interface (also available from the Dines Shop). This enables CloudPRNT functionality on the following model series:
- TSP650II
- TSP700II
- TSP800II
- SP700 Matrix Kitchen Printer.
Set up a printer
To set up a printer, you need a CloudPRNT-compatible Star Micronics printer plugged into an internet router using a LAN cable (also known as an ethernet cable).
Once plugged in, follow our handy step-by-step guide to getting your printer set up...
Step 1: Find your printer's IP address
- Turn the power off (hold down the power button on the right side of the operation panel on the front of the main unit for 1 second or more)
- Perform Self-Printing
- While holding down the FEED button (1) press the Power button (2)
- Release the power button and keep holding the FEED button
- Take your hands off the FEED button once the Self-Printing has started.
Step 2: Open Printer's Settings and Login
On a device that is connected to the same network that your printer is connected to, open up a browser.
Enter the IP Address (example: 192.168.1.113) of the printer into the browser address bar and hit 'Enter' and you will open up the printer's settings screen (see below).
- Click log in and enter the following details:
- Username: 'root'
- Password: 'public'
- You'll be prompted for a new password - choose a memorable password and press 'submit'.
Step 3: Enable CloudPRNT
- From the menu or the menu button displayed at upper left, open [CloudPRNT].
- Set CloudPRNT Service to “ENABLE”.
- Enter the CloudPRNT server URL in Server URL: https://beta.starprinter.online/cloudprnt/dines
- Enter the '1' second in Polling time.
- Do not enter a username.
- Tap [Submit].
- From the menu or the menu button in the upper left, open [Save].
- Select Save, then restart the device.
- Tap [Execute].
If successful, your printer will create two small printouts (the second one can take 30 secs) with an email address on in the format dines-[code]@beta.starprinter.online
Step 4: Set up the printer on your Dines Dashboard
In your Dines Dashboard, navigate to Settings > Kitchen > Printing > Add Printer.
Then complete the settings as follows:
- Name - Give your printer a memorable name, preferably related to its location in your venue. For example, this could be "Station 1" or "Kitchen Counter".
- Device ID - Enter the characters before the @ sign (from the email your printer printed at the end of Step 3 above) in the "Device ID" section above. (Note: avoid this common mistake - don't forget that the 'dines' part should be lowercase!)
- Choose your printer type - There are three configurations of printouts you can choose from:
- Customer receipts - these receipts can be presented to customers and will contain information about all items purchased, any fees (e.g. service charge) and VAT information.
- Kitchen receipts - these receipts will include any items which have been designated as a 'Kitchen item'.
- Bar receipts - these receipts will include any wet items the bill.
