Overview of Cloud Printing and Dines

Cloud Printing with Dines is easy to set up and is often a critical part of operations, especially in larger venues. You can choose to print automatically when an order is received, or manually print when needed.

There are three configurations of printouts you can choose from:

Front of HouseThese receipts can be presented to customers and will contain information about all items purchased, any fees (e.g. service charge), and VAT information.
Kitchen TicketThese receipts will include any items which have been marked as a “Kitchen item.” Learn more about operating a kitchen with Dines here.
Bar / DrinksThese receipts will include any wet items on the bill.

All bills will contain information that will help identify the related order, including the 4-digit order number, customer name, and Table / Collection / Delivery time.

Hardware

Which printers are compatible?

The Dines system is compatible with Star Micronics printers that support CloudPRNT. The best model to use with Dines, and the best value, is the Star Micronics mC-Print3. You can order one directly from the Dines Shop and it will be with you in 5 working days.

For a list of other printers that are CloudPRNT compatible, please see here.

If you have a Star Thermal POS printer that is not listed in the link above, it should accept the Hi X Connect Interface (also available from the Dines Shop). This enables CloudPRNT functionality on the following model series:

  • TSP650II

  • TSP700II

  • TSP800II

  • SP700 Matrix Kitchen Printer

Step by step

Set up a printer

To set up a printer, you need a CloudPRNT-compatible Star Micronics printer plugged into an internet router using a LAN cable (also known as an ethernet cable). Once plugged in, follow our step-by-step guide to getting your printer set up.

  1. Find your printer’s IP address. Turn the power off by holding the power button on the right side of the operation panel for 1 second or more. Then perform Self-Printing: while holding down the FEED button, press the Power button, release the power button but keep holding FEED, then take your hands off FEED once Self-Printing has started.

  2. Open the printer’s settings and log in. On a device connected to the same network as your printer, open a browser. Enter the IP address of the printer (for example 192.168.1.113) into the address bar and press Enter to open the printer’s settings screen. Click log in and enter the username root and password public. You will be prompted for a new password, so choose a memorable one and press Submit.

  3. Enable CloudPRNT. From the menu button at the upper left, open CloudPRNT and set the CloudPRNT Service to ENABLE.

    • Enter the Dines printing server URL in Server URL: https://printing.dines.co.uk/

    • Enter 1 second in Polling time.

    • Do not enter a username, then tap Submit.

From the menu button in the upper left, open Save. Select Save, then restart the device and tap Execute. If successful, your printer will create two small printouts (the second can take 30 seconds) featuring “dines” and a six-digit code, like the one below.

  4. Set up the printer on your Dines Dashboard. In your Dines Dashboard, navigate to Settings > Operations > Printers > New Printer, then complete the settings as follows.

    • Name: give your printer a memorable name, preferably related to its location in your venue, for example “Station 1” or “Kitchen Counter.”

    • Device ID: enter the six-digit code that comes after “dines” on your printout from step 3. You do not need to type the “dines” part, as this appears automatically.

    • Choose your printer type: select Front of House, Kitchen Ticket, or Bar / Drinks Only, as described at the top of this article.
